East Hendred is a beautiful peaceful village nestling at the foot of the Berkshire downs with no through traffic and dozens of beautiful old buildings. The central part of the village is a conservation area with every building being listed. Any changes to the look of them has to be vetted and approved both by the county council and Parish Council.
It seems however, that this rules do not apply to changes requested by the Parish Council and actioned by the highways department to control a non existent conflict between vehicles and pedestrians on what is usually an empty public house forecourt and would have now been an attractive patio area had the Parish Council not decided that they did not like the idea of a (to quote a member of the Parish Council) "A cafe society in the village" The end result is the absolute eyesore as detailed below.

The underlying reason is a hatred of change by a few too powerful people in the village who do not listen to the majority and use cars and people as an excuse to exert their ideas and thoughts on the rest of the village with no consideration to what they have done to a conversation area!
Oxfordshire County Council who painted the lines at the request of the Parish Council. The real reason for these lines? Certain members of East Hendred Parish Council do not like to see others prospering!!! One Parish councilor even told a resident whose home is directly next to the white lines that if they didn't like them they should move!
The excuse for these white lines was to separate pedestrians from traffic. Doesn't seem to be much of either around the video was taken in the middle of a Summers day!
Tell your council lines are not needed at all.

Oxfordshire County Council, at the request of the Parish Council remove the little white men!
Alas what is left is more looks as if it was the last position of a Hiroshima victim!
